Maintain satisfaction and the life of your chopping board
Here are a few tips to help maintain satisfaction and the life of your chopping board:
- Never place hot objects, such as pots, onto your chopping board. As this can cause the board to warp and in the case of plastic boards, melt!
- Secure your board before chopping, so that it is safer to use. This can be done by placing a clean damp cloth on your bench top, then placing the board on top.
- Use the correct size board for the job. For small jobs such as cutting cheese use a small board, for filleting a salmon use a large board.
Cleaning and Maintenance – How should I care for my chopping board?
Clean
Wooden Boards
- Clean with hot soapy water, rinse and dry immediately.
- Do not submerse your board in water, as this will cause the wood to swell and then warp when the drying process begins.
Plastic Boards
- Clean with hot soapy water, rinse and dry immediately.
- Some boards are dishwasher safe (top rack only), however for a longer life it is better to hand wash, as the boards are less prone to warping.
Maintenance
Wooden Boards
- To protect and enhance the appearance of your wooden chopping board, apply a light coating of vegetable oil to the surface.
- To remove stains, use lemon juice
- To remove odours from the wood, rub salt into the wood when it is dry. Rinse thoroughly after.
Plastic Boards
- Stains can be removed by using a mild solution of bleach then rinse thoroughly. Stains that are stubborn may require soaking for a few hours. Always rinse thoroughly before using the board again.
